Whenever Gabe and I take a road trip, we make it a point to stop at thrift stores and antique shops on the way, just to see what various towns have to offer. We hit the jackpot a few weeks back when Gabe discovered an old carpenter’s bench underneath a smattering of coffee mugs, kitchen canisters, and salt shakers. He’d been wanting one for our future kitchen as a potential island, which got my gears turning. For our Carpenter Buffet, I took all of the great things about Gabe’s new (old) bench (robust legs, thick pine top, and a single drawer), added way more storage, and slimmed down its size. This revamped piece can go almost anywhere, from dining room to entry, thanks to its smaller scale.
