A dear friend, Kathie, summered in Vancouver, and I was delighted to get to visit her one year. This part of British Columbia is known the world over for its public gardens, but Kathie’s personal property was nothing to overlook. She kept an absolutely darling garden and would cut flowers every few days to refill the vases in the house. My favorites were a fistful of blue hydrangeas from the bush by the front porch--they lasted for more than a week, and then Kathie hung them upside down to dry them.
